Belted Sauce

Belted Sauce – A Versatile Pakistani Delight

Sauces play a key role in Pakistani cuisine, adding richness and layers of flavor to every dish. One such sauce that deserves attention is the "Belted Sauce." This versatile and flavorful sauce can be used to complement a variety of dishes, from kebabs and roasted meats to rice and naan. Its bold flavors come from a blend of traditional Pakistani spices, yogurt, and herbs, making it a go-to for food lovers who appreciate strong, zesty tastes.

Origins of Belted Sauce

Though relatively modern, Belted Sauce is a fusion of traditional Pakistani flavors with contemporary ingredients. Its popularity stems from how well it pairs with many classic dishes. The name "Belted" could refer to the way this sauce enhances and ‘belts’ flavors, binding the meal together with a robust punch.

 Ingredients You’ll Need:

- 1 cup plain yogurt

- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional for extra creaminess)

- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

- 1 tablespoon olive oil

- 2 garlic cloves (minced)

- 1 teaspoon cumin powder

- 1 teaspoon coriander powder

- 1 teaspoon paprika or red chili powder (adjust for spice level)

- ½ teaspoon garam masala

- ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)

- Freshly chopped coriander or mint leaves (for garnish)

- 1 small green chili (optional for heat)

- A pinch of sugar (to balance the flavors)

Method:

Prepare the base:In a mixing bowl, whisk together the yogurt, mayonnaise, and lemon juice until smooth. The yogurt serves as a creamy, tangy base, while the mayonnaise adds richness.

Add the spices: Gradually mix in the cumin, coriander, paprika, garam masala, and salt. These spices are essential in giving the sauce its characteristic depth and warmth.

Flavor with garlic and chili: Add the minced garlic and green chili (if using) for an extra kick of flavor. You can adjust the level of heat depending on your preference.

Balance the flavors: Stir in the olive oil and a pinch of sugar to balance the tanginess of the yogurt and the spice from the chili. The olive oil adds a smooth texture and enhances the overall taste.

Garnish: Finally, top with freshly chopped coriander or mint leaves for a burst of freshness and color.

Rest and serve: Allow the sauce to sit for 10-15 minutes before serving. This helps the flavors meld together. Serve it alongside grilled meats, kebabs, rice, or as a dip with naan.
